Digital Chimeric Agitators - The performance of myth -‘Dracula’ in Whitby

As the title of Digital Chimeric Agitators, I am creating 24 events for Dracula in the legendary town, Whitby. The vampire of 24 events appears in the different corners of Whitby to establish a story of Dracula. It’s a performance to redraw Dracula, which is tracing the blood from churchyard (grave) to church. The scenes can be constructed based on the story which is from one of chapters of Bram Stoker's book. Also the idea of drawing will combine my imagination with his motion to connect with the environment issue and show the different agile of vampire moving in daytime or dark time.

Below are two events I accomplished so far.

The Amazing Cape
Chapter One: walk out form graveyard
The Dracula wakes up from the graveyard and walks out to find his food – blood trace. The light trace shows the movement of Dracula. Those light covering a new spatial in the churchyard.
Chapter two: seeking bloods and moving through the landscape
The vampire usually wears the red overcoat. His red dress will pull and drag the landscape with his motion. This fabric will not only show the motion of Dracula but also reform the landscape. (The fabric dress could be a new skin of vampire to change landscape such as his overcoat (red and black) and dress is as a part of landscape)
Chapter three: pulling the water to land and seeking the blood in water

The skin, which was developed from the geometry of body motion, acts as the interface of reforming environment to pull and drag the landscape and the background of space. Considering the skin, which was produced from the motion, is a layer similar to clothes for the environment. The body motion includes the space and the performance. The typology of fashion design defines the relation of body with clothes, and it also links to body motion. Typology – The fashion fabric can be an interface to reflect the elements of the environment, and it could also transform the motion to environmental elements to represent the ‘agile’ of body and environment. (Soft fabric or hard fabric such as chainmail and the suit of armour) The projects of Chalayan Hussein present the territory of body with fashion fabric. The soft fabric dress as the interface of body and space is attached to show the body motion, and represent the distance of body to environment. The fabric covers and interacts with the landscape (new skin). It is the interface of agile in-between body and space to reflect and reform the environment and the landscape. It is the tool to reform the space and to disturb landscape. The pulling and the dragging the distance in-between body and environment recover a new surface for the space itself.
24 drawing is used showed how different agile of vampires in the daytime and the night time disturb the landscape and background in order to create a relationship with new surface and space. Represent the agile and motion of vampire shifting in the space.

The 'Red' Performance

The cell
When I start to image the scenario and the relationship of the body surface and context , I link to some scenes of this movie which the motions powerfully change the space by fabric.

OK Go
This MV showed the body play with the different relationship of dance and spatial equipment and then created a interesting performance.

Dynamic relationship with body and surface

The discussion is about relationship between the body and the environment. The edges of the dynamic motion form a visual surface (or skin). The body not only creates a new space but also the dynamic space in-between the skin and the environment by the movement of body motion. The project focuses on this interface to discuss the relationship of body and architectural space, which changes by the altering body and the time. This dynamic interface reflects the relationship of a moving object and the space where the object passed by. The circulation, like corridor, links up two spaces as passage for people to go through. Body can build different relationship with architectural space at different times. I define the space between the boundary of body and walls “unoccupied space". The aim is to study the space.
The body movements was recorded when it moved through the stairway for the analysis of its details in each time frame and reconstructed the data in 3D space to decipher the boundary of body.

Time – The surface (skin) changes by using the sensor to detect the distance of the object and the wall. The space (gap) in between the surface and the wall represents the relationship of body and environment. It means the next person who goes through the stair will know the surface of former people. However, the surface will flatten to the initial status as if a wallpaper after a longer period of time.
The same system could be applied to the relationship between two people. The skin will reflect the first pattern left by the first person and it would affect the action of the other person. Therefore, the first man can change the second person.

The experiment The altering relationship, the altering space
The sensor / the time line / dynamic wall
The idea comes from the concept of Pin Art to form the shape of object. However, the system is a dynamic method to reflect the movements. The ‘control joints’ of the geometry space are every joint of a body, which was tested and defined last term. The surface system is controlled by the sensor attached to hydraulic transmission tool. The sensors are attached on the joint of altering body. The sensor detects the distance of body and physical space. The skin reflects the changing body which passes by. The body movement reforms a new shape in the environment as it creates a dynamic and ever-changing relation to the space. On the other hand, it is like sponges as a rehabilitated system to reflect the relationship of the changes in the space created by two moving bodies which reform a new shape in the limited time.

Two different body scales (woman and man) walk through the stair.
Different body motions in the environment affect each other. The former body will be the element to affect the second body motion in the limited timeline (the temporary barrier). Two bodies who walk in different speed will affect each other.

Possible site:
The traditional British House / Public space
Bodies in different scales and motions move within the circulation and the space. The system applies to the basic architectural elements such as walls and ceilings in a public space. Use the dynamic skin system to establish a change to the space which will create a new spatial type.
